I Ran A Survey Across All My Students To Find Out The Best Study Places In Singapore, Here’s What I Found

Square

As a student,

I’m sure some of you prefers studying in a conducive place away from home.

So…

I ran a survey across all my students to find out the best study places in Singapore,

here’s what I found:

  • 24%, or a quarter of my students enjoy studying in Starbucks and Coffee Bean.
  • 21% of them study in public libraries
  • 18% study on campuses
  • 13% of them travel all the way to Changi Airport
  • 8% patronise fastfood establishments such as McDonald’s or KFC
  • 6% seek hipster cafes (aka the more “atas” ones)
  • 5% visit the local community centres (surprisingly low, would expect higher)
  • 5% with none-of-the-above

So what matters most to them in their selection for study areas?

To them, what counts most are conducive, quiet places to study with power points.

Let me elaborate on their choices.

Starbucks Coffee

Probably counts as among the top 10 places to study in Singapore.

The fragrant aroma of coffee, comfortable seats and the ability to drink a cup of rich, creamy and sweet Frappuccino.

Whether studying at Starbucks is effective or not depends on individual. (see tips memory-improving tips here)

But interestingly, some students reveal that the studying part is used to justify buying a Starbucks drink.

But:

Respect Starbucks studying policy and studying hours.

Here’s a response left previously by the company towards an incident where a girl was asked not to study in the premises:

“We’ve also noticed the reactions within this post and also through previous feedback about table turn in Starbucks. We encourage all patrons to share the space so that everyone can enjoy their visit. Finally, we would like to ask for your consideration to share your thoughts and comments with respect and refrain from offensive personal attacks on [the girl] or any other member of our community. Thank you.”

Anyway, here are some beautiful and quietest Starbucks, most opening 24hours:

Public Libraries

The next favourite study corner on our list are libraries.

Libraries these days are getting Instagram-worthy.

Home interior designers used to get their inspirations from chic cafes – I can foresee more to model their houses after

… libraries!

Based on public feedbacks, the newer libraries have now added more seats and power points for studying. Checked.

Next on the students’ wish-list – libraries that never sleep.

Some libraries have Café Galilee outlets so that you can get your caffeine boost.

Did you notice?

All the Café Galilee outlets are located in libraries.

For those who often study in libraries, thinking of where to study when the library is closed in a major headache to them.

The library @ Esplanade is one of the quietest libraries in Singapore as it is seldom visited by people on the weekdays.

Library @ Orchard is easily accessible, near Somerset MRT station and is one of the newest libraries in Singapore, although recently edged out by Tampines Regional Library.

Changi Airport

Changi Airport, the finest airport in the world …

and also the favorite study corner among students.

Open 24 hours, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi everyday and a beautiful environment,

It is of no wonder why some of my west-living students will travel down specially to the airport

Among the various places to study in Changi Airport – Starbucks, Coffee Bean and Dunkin Donuts remain top choices.

Ask the friendly staff for the power points peppered across the different terminals

Just be mindful and avoid studying there on a crowded day.

Do you know there are food courts for staff you can patronise?

Meals priced for their staff, the canteens are innocuously tucked near the multi-storey carparks.

Just ask any staff for directions.

FastFood Restaurants

Need I mention more?

Most fastfood outlets do not offer power points, but this Burger King branch at Tampines North CC does provide.

However, would advise students to avoid studying there if there are other options.

Community Centres

I’m quite surprised the community centres are not as popular as I would expect them to be, since they are located within the neighbourhood.

Let me share with you this a little-known secret-

Most community centres study room have free Wifi and AMPLE of power points.

For Sengkang CC, free flow of food and beverages are offered to students as well!

However, the officers will require you to register your NRIC with them (a simple procedure) before you can be granted access.
