How to Prepare for WA3 Exams

Mastering WA3 (Weighted Assessment 3)

WA3 (Weighted Assessment 3) is the Term 3 assessment under Singapore’s MOE Weighted Assessment system, which replaced mid-year exams for Primary and Secondary levels. It typically contributes 10–15

Because WA3 falls later in the year, it usually covers more cumulative content than WA1 or WA2 — which is exactly why students find it harder to prepare for. Here’s how I coach my students through it:

1. Map the syllabus before you revise

Don’t open past papers cold. List every topic tested since WA2 and rate your confidence in each (1–5). Revision time should go to your weakest areas first, not your favorite ones.

2. Practice under timed conditions

WA3 questions test speed as much as accuracy. Doing untimed practice builds false confidence — simulate the actual paper duration at least twice before the real thing.

3. Review mistakes, not just answers

After every practice paper, write down why each wrong answer was wrong — a careless slip, a concept gap, or a misread question. These three have very different fixes.

4. Revisit WA1 and WA2 content

Because WA3 is often cumulative, older topics resurface. A 15-minute weekly review of earlier chapters prevents them from becoming blind spots.

5. Don’t cram the night before

Since WA scores build toward the EOY exam, consistent weekly revision beats last-minute cramming — and it’s far less stressful for students juggling multiple subjects.
